Quality Assurance With Learning Analytics in Schools
Building capacity for learning analytics in secondary education
"Developing the field of education
by strengthening evidence-informed strategies has always been the driving principle behind this project"

PROJECT
The QUALAS project aims to bridge the gap between the fields of Learning Analytics and Quality Assurance in Schools. The digital transformation in education yields a lot of opportunities for schools to work with digital learning platforms for instance for providing differentiated instruction to students. In particular, for students from socio-economic vulnerable environments or with special educational needs. The digital transformation has even embarked on a next step, as artificial intelligence is making a rapid introduction to the field of education. Together with this introduction of digital learning platforms, there is also an increased interest in learning analytics that provides insights into the learning paths of students and how this process has been effective. Up till now, the use of these learning analytics has been primarily situated at the micro-level, between teachers and students. However, the potential of these learning analytics at the school level for quality assurance and school development purposes has been neglected. Furthermore, it is found that schools are also struggling with the use of data they have already available in the school. It is a missed opportunity to not properly make of these data. An increasing focus in the upcoming years on evidence-informed practice will only foster this tendency.
